Problem In The Government App Keeps iPhone Users Waiting For The Brexit Residency App

The Brexit scenario in Britain is not only inflicting chaos in the areas of politics and business, however, is causing its share of technology woes too. The newest problem is with the federal government app, which permits EU nationals residing in Britain to apply to stay within the country, which is only available for Android and not iPhone.

EU nationals who live in Britain, of whom there are 3.6 million, can apply to the EU Settlement Scheme to be granted “settled status” to permit them to stay. Nevertheless, only 1 million eligible individuals have utilized it so far. The application process requires scanning paperwork as proof of identification, and now the app which is meant to make the method simpler will not be accessible on one of many two largest mobile platforms.

In its instructions for applying for the Settlement Scheme, the British authorities say. You can only use the ‘EU Exit: ID Document Check’ app for Android to scan documents and that if those who do not have access to an Android device should submit their paperwork by post or in person.

Callers to the scheme’s helpline who have an iPhone are being informed they need to “borrow an Android device” or go to a government center in-person to finish their application, as reported. The Home Office, the department of government chargeable for immigration and residency standing, told it’s engaged on the iPhone app which must be prepared “later this year.”

That will not do much good to the 2.6 million individuals who still want to apply for settled status, nevertheless. Last week the British authorities announced it might finish freedom of movement for EU nationals instantly if there’s a no-deal Brexit on October 31st. However, the Home Office maintains that the deadline to use for settled status is December 31st.
